Shelf on the Elf

I know you’ve heard of “elf on the shelf” but have you ever heard of a “shelf on the elf?!” Oh, do I have a story to tell you. Elves are just like people with all different sorts of personalities. Some are grumpy, some are sweet, some are hefty, some petite. One of my favorite elves is a little mischievous, which basically means he sometimes sticks his long nose into places it shouldn’t be, and lately he’s been trying to stick his nose, and mouth, into my personal cookie jar. I really can’t blame him though,  ² Snicker-doodles, are my favorite cookie just like they are yours. Mrs. Claus keeps a jar stocked full of them all year long, just for me.

Well, Winefred (that’s his name), was so good at finding my cookie jar that no matter where I hid it he always managed to discover and empty it. But the thing is that elves, as a general rule, are quite short. Even the tallest of them only reaches the top of my belt. So one day I decided to hide the cookie jar in plain sight, but just out of reach, on a high shelf in my office.

But just this morning I came into my office and guess what I found. Winefred, laying on the ground with a shelf on him and cookies scattered all over. I found my “shelf on an elf!” Now don’t worry, elves are tough. Winefred was all right, but had a bump on his head from his efforts. We both later had a jolly good laugh about it all.
